Vara to Preside at Latino Awards Event

Kathy Vara, co-anchor of KNBC-TV Channel 4’s “Today in LA,” will serve as mistress of ceremonies for El Concilio del Condado de Ventura’s eighth annual Latino Leadership Awards banquet.

Vara recently received the Hispanic Heritage Award from President Clinton. Winners of El Concilio awards will be recognized for their contributions in community service, education, youth leadership, cultural arts, business/labor and health leadership.

Proceeds from the Jan. 25 event, which costs $50 per person or $90 per couple, will go to support El Concilio’s youth violence prevention programs. The banquet will be held at the Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard.
