Buena’s Davies Zeros In Again
Buena High goalie Andy Davies recorded his fourth consecutive shutout and the Bulldogs defeated Dos Pueblos, 2-0, Thursday in a Channel League match at Buena.
Davies had five saves in his sixth shutout of the season. He has not allowed a goal in Channel League play.
Randy Glaser and Luis Sanchez scored for the Bulldogs (9-1-2, 4-0 in league).
In other boys’ matches:
Rio Mesa 1, Oxnard 0--Jaime Ambriz scored on a penalty kick in the 25th minute and the Spartan defense made it stand up in a Channel League match at Rio Mesa.
The Spartans (6-1-1, 3-0-1) will meet Buena on Tuesday at Buena in a battle for first place. Rio Mesa beat Buena, 2-1, in last year’s Southern Section quarterfinals.
Bishop Diego 2, St. Bonaventure 1--Darius Jue scored for the Seraphs (1-8-1, 0-4-0) in the 60th minute, but they could not overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit in a Tri-Valley League match at Bishop Diego.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Santa Barbara 1, Ventura 0--Megan Moore scored for the Dons (10-1-1, 3-0-1) in the 25th minute of a Channel League match at Ventura.
The Cougars (8-3-3, 2-1-1) failed to convert their best scoring chance on Mandi Enfield’s corner kick in the 75th minute.
Buena 3, Dos Pueblos 0--Goalie Katie Maxwell had three saves for the Bulldogs (10-2-2, 2-0-2) to post her 10th shutout of the season in a Channel League match at Dos Pueblos.
Megan Munday scored two first-half goals and Barb Almaraz added one in the second half.
Rio Mesa 2, Oxnard 2--Karina Molthu and Robin Roberts scored in the second half for the Spartans to forge a tie in Channel League action at Oxnard.
Anna McCroskey scored two first-half goals for the Yellowjackets (2-3-2, 0-2-2).
Frazier Mountain 4, Village Christian 3--Stephanie Lenburg scored three goals for the Falcons (9-3-1) in their Alpha League opener at Village Christian.
Crescenta Valley 7, Muir 0--Stephanie Rigamet had three goals for the Falcons (7-2-2) in a Pacific League opener against the Mustangs (3-3) at Crescenta Valley.
Lauren Stevenson had her sixth shutout of the season.
Saugus 1, Quartz Hill 0--Kim Wright scored in the third minute and Katy McGuigan made nine saves in her fifth shutout for the Centurions (5-2-1) at Quartz Hill.
