Hazardous Waste Pickup Drive Begins
A three-day hazardous waste collection drive sponsored by the Los Angeles Department of Public Works got underway Thursday at an Anheuser-Busch parking lot.
The free service designed to collect household products that should not be disposed of conventionally is available to residents only by appointment, according to city officials.
The city is accepting products such as paint and solvents, aerosol cans, garden chemicals, car batteries, oil, pesticides, fertilizers and pool cleaners, said Eric Rose, district director for Councilwoman Laura Chick.
Items that will not be accepted include radioactive materials--such as those found in X-ray machines--explosives, biological waste and tires, he said.
The site at Roscoe Boulevard and Woodley Avenue will also be open today and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents can call (800) 988-6942 for an appointment and other information.
A Canoga Park collection drive is scheduled for Jan. 30, 31 and Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rocketdyne parking lot at De Soto Avenue and Gresham Street.
