SabreTech to Sell Facility Involved in Crash

SabreTech, the maintenance company that mishandled dangerous cargo loaded on the doomed ValuJet plane, said it plans to sell the Miami repair station where the work was done. Temporary mechanics hired by SabreTech improperly handled and packaged oxygen generators suspected of fueling a cargo fire on May 11 that brought down the ValuJet DC-9, killing all 110 people aboard. Under scrutiny since the crash, the Phoenix-based company plans to sell the Miami operation as soon as today and surrender its Federal Aviation Administration certificate Wednesday. SabreTech, part of privately held Sabreliner Corp., based in St. Louis, is a major aviation maintenance company. Sabreliner also operates repair bases in Phoenix and Dallas.
