People / Spotlight on achievers
Police Detective Cpl. James K. Enright, a 15-year veteran, has been named the city’s 1996 officer of the year, the second time he has won that honor.
Enright was the 1990 officer of the year.
In announcing the latest award recently, Police Chief David S. Barr pointed out the Enright has been a much-decorated officer.
Early last year, Enright was awarded the department’s Medal of Merit, Barr said, “for his tenacious investigation” into the 1993 homicide of Carlos Salanova. His investigation led to the arrest of four suspects who are currently in custody and awaiting trial.
Others receiving awards were: Parking Control Officer John Allensworth as non-sworn employee of the year, Alan Moore as reserve police officer of the year and William Zechiel as volunteer of the year for the department’s Senior Citizens Organizing for Reciprocal Efforts program.
Reserve Police Officer Ron Wilkerson received the Overall Firearms Proficiency Award.
