Brown Reportedly to Retire at End of Season at LSU

Times Wire Services

Louisiana State Coach Dale Brown, whose teams haven’t reached the NCAA Tournament in four years, will retire at the end of the season, according to ESPN.

LSU officials had no comment, but a news conference has been scheduled for today.

Brown, 61, led teams to the Final Four in 1981 and 1986 and has a 445-287 record in 25 seasons at LSU--the seventh-longest term of continuous service at one school among active coaches.

LSU, however, has gone 35-48 the last three seasons, and this season’s 7-6 record includes three lopsided losses to nationally ranked teams and an embarrassing home defeat against Samford.

Highly regarded freshman center Lester Earl recently quit the team over lack of playing time but returned Tuesday and apologized to teammates. Earl wasn’t at Wednesday’s practice.
