Coastal Commission
* The honeymoon must be over. Assembly Speaker Cruz Bustamante came in as a moderate Democrat and the Republicans were full of hope that a “moderate” would be someone they could work with to the benefit of all.
So what does “moderate” Bustamante do as his first act? He makes sure everyone understands he is no moderate, but a good working liberal, by throwing out all the Republicans appointed by former Speaker Curt Pringle and appointing the very liberal former Assemblyman Bob Campbell to the California Coastal Commission (Dec. 10).
There were too many people working in the construction trades anyway. The unions that supported Speaker Bustamante should be happy he is putting a stop to coastal construction.
