Centura Software Corp. said co-founder Umang Gupta resigned from its board, shortly after ending his tenure as chairman of the struggling database software company. Gupta, 46, founded the company in 1984 after leaving Oracle Corp., the biggest database software maker. He served as chairman until Oct. 17, when his duties were taken over by Sam Inman, now Centura’s president, chairman and chief executive. One year ago, Inman assumed Gupta’s duties as CEO as the company continued to struggle to compete with larger rivals. The company has reported earnings of 7 cents a share for the first nine months of the year, though last year it reported a loss of $3.62 a share. Inman is one of only five board members for Centura, which had been called Gupta Corp. until earlier this year. The company said it’s seeking an outside replacement for Gupta. The Menlo Park-based company released the news after the close of U.S. trading. Centura stock rose 12.5 cents to close at $2.75 on Nasdaq.
