Regional Girls’ Volleyball Playoffs Set to Start Tuesday
After winning the Southern Section’s highest award, Laguna Beach begins its run toward the state’s top title, Tuesday at 7 p.m., in the first round of the Southern Region girls’ volleyball playoffs.
Laguna Beach, 22-2, won its third Southern Section girls’ volleyball championship Saturday, with a five-game victory over Manhattan Beach Mira Costa (22-2) in Division I-AA.
In the first round of the state Division I tournament, the second-seeded Artists host Bakersfield (18-4). Between Laguna Beach and the Division I state title lies Capistrano Valley and Southern Section Division I-A champion Fountain Valley.
Capistrano Valley (17-4), which lost to Fountain Valley in the section I-A final, travels to top-seeded Bakersfield Centennial (31-1) and Fountain Valley (18-2) travels to Vista Rancho Buena Vista (31-6) in first-round matches.
In Division II first-round matches, top-seeded Huntington Beach (26-2), Southern Section Division II-AA champion, hosts Santee West Hills (22-6) and Southern Section Division II-A champion Santa Margarita (14-5) hosts Visalia Redwood (17-1).
In a Division IV first-round match, Calvary Chapel (14-4) travels to top-seeded La Jolla The Bishops (31-5).
