SANTA ANA — Westminster picked up its first Golden West League victory Friday night, defeating Santa Ana, 35-15, at Santa Ana Stadium.
The Lions scored on their first three possessions as quarterback Shaun Spradling scored on the opening drive on a two-yard run. He then connected with Chris Brewer for touchdown passes of 26 and 29 yards.
Westminster led, 21-7, at halftime. The Lions (2-6, 1-2) scored on their first drive of the second half after an 83-yard drive that was capped by a 24-yard touchdown run by Sparky Kale. Kale finished another drive with a one-yard run for a 35-7 lead.
With 4:29 left in the game, Santa Ana Valley’s Chris Weaver caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Hector Candelas to make it 35-15, but that was as close as the Saints (0-8, 0-3) would get.
