Indonesian Players Dominate the Finals of the U.S. Open
ORANGE — Indonesian athletes won four of the five titles at the U.S. Open Badminton Championships Saturday at the Orange County Badminton Club.
Top-seeded Joko Suprianto defeated Olympic gold-medalist Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen of Denmark, 15-13, 15-13, to win the men’s singles title.
In women’s singles, Mia Audina, an Olympic silver medalist, won the title, defeating Denmark’s Camilla Martin, 11-5, 12-9. Rosiana Zelin and Eliza won the women’s doubles title by defeating England’s Joanne Goode and Julie Bradbury.
The men’s doubles pair of Chandra Wijaya and Sigit, unseeded in the tournament, defeated Olympic silver medalists Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock of Malaysia, 11-5, 12-9.
South Korea’s Kim Dong Moon and Chung So Young defeated England’s Chris Hunt and Denmark’s Helene Kirkegaard, 15-5, 15-7, for the mixed doubles title.
