Landmark Hotel to Be Sold and Renovated

The landmark Casa del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, which has housed the Pritikin Longevity Center for 18 years, will be sold and converted into a luxury beachfront hotel, the buyers and seller have announced.
Rather than pay about $2 million for seismic retrofitting, Pritikin center owners decided to sell the brick building to The Edward Thomas Cos., a hotel real estate firm.
Santa Monica city officials said they are pleased with plans to preserve the historic building, which was designed by architect Charles F. Plummer in the 1920s.
