Four Police Departments Get U.S. Grants for Expansion
Long Beach and Glendale are among four Southern California cities that will expand their police departments through new federal grants announced Monday.
The cities of San Bernardino and Oxnard also received the U.S. Department of Justice grants, funded through the 1994 Crime Act.
Long Beach will add 20 officers, Glendale will hire three new officers, Oxnard will add 10 to its force and San Bernardino will hire 11.
The federal grants fund up to 75% of the total salary and benefits of each officer for three years. The combined grants total $3.3 million.
