Future World: Whom do you see playing high school football on a late-summer or fall Friday night in the San Fernando Valley? . . . Some of the players you will see in future years on television, stars at major colleges across the nation. An update on a few local products:
Secondary Primer: Eliel Swinton, a Stanford senior from Montclair Prep in Van Nuys, has started for the Cardinals at all four defensive back positions. . . . Now at strong safety, he recovered a fumble and was in on 14 tackles in Stanford’s first two games. He made a touchdown- saving interception against Wisconsin on Saturday.
Worth the Price: Durell Price didn’t take long to establish himself at UCLA. In his second game, he gained 110 yards against Northeast Louisiana. . . . That’s not far off the 9.2 yards per carry Price averaged for Sylmar High.
Brownout Ends: Jerry Brown, a former Taft High star, returned to the lineup for Oregon on Saturday and gained 28 yards in eight carries as the Ducks lost to Washington State. A week ago, he lost three yards on his only carry before being injured against Colorado State.
