Clippers Sign Former Bruin
Free agent guard Darrick Martin, a former UCLA star, signed a two-year contract with the Clippers Thursday.
“I wanted to play at home and now I get to play at home,” Martin said. “I’d rather play at home than anywhere else, really. Playing at home means a lot to me, I can have much more peace of mind around family and friends.”
Martin, who has averaged 7.2 points in 93 NBA games, is expected to be a reserve point guard behind starter Pooh Richardson.
Meanwhile, Clipper Coach Bill Fitch, who underwent an emergency triple bypass last month, was cleared to return to work by his cardiologist.
Fitch, 62, will meet with his heart surgeon at a hospital near his home in suburban Houston and undergo his final physical therapy session today before returning to Los Angeles to resume his duties next week.
