Toxics Collection Planned at Landfill

Residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous household waste at a free household hazardous waste roundup to be held Sunday at the Calabasas Landfill.
Hazardous household waste can be a danger to the environment if simply thrown away with other garbage. The waste roundup provides a safe alternative.
The event is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the county sanitation districts. The cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Los Angeles and Westlake Village are cooperating in the effort.
Workers will collect waste from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the landfill, 5300 Lost Hills Road, Agoura. The collection is limited to household waste only, including motor oil, acid and lye-based cleaners, car batteries, old paint, pesticides and garden herbicides. Explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials or waste from businesses will not be accepted.
Residents may dispose of only 15 gallons or 125 pounds of household waste per vehicle entering the landfill. The items must be placed in a sturdy box, preferably the original labeled containers. Products should not be mixed.
