* Re “Why Not St. Disneyana’s, a Place to Play and Pray?” by Lee Burns, Commentary, Sept. 9:
I find it appalling for a Catholic ex-organist of St. Vibiana’s to suggest the future Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels as a place “to pray and play.” One of the Catholic Church’s central beliefs is the real presence of the Lord symbolized by a continuously burning votive lamp. A Catholic church, especially a cathedral, is a “hallowed ground” and must be open to the faithful at all times. It is not a business place. A Catholic church is solely for worship and must remain so. This is the main difference between the Catholic church and other churches, i.e., the sanctity of its honored traditions for 2,000 years. Professor Burns should better review his Baltimore catechism.
