Two small girls died early Wednesday in a fire that swept through their one-room Upland apartment, police said.
Their mother, Raina Crawford, 23, told police she was sleeping on the floor of the apartment on Arrow Highway when the fire broke out at 2:43 a.m., said Upland Police Lt. Ed Gray. Crawford escaped the blaze, but was unable to free her children, Gray said.
Thirteen-month-old J’nelle Coleman was pronounced dead on arrival at San Antonio Community Hospital. Her sister, 3-year-old Brianna West, died five hours later.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
