The city and the Costa Mesa Sanitary District have extended the deadline to Sept. 13 for residents to participate in a collection program for hazardous household materials.
Residents who want to dispose of toxic wastes, including anti-freeze, batteries, motor oil, paints, pool chemicals, household cleaners and pesticides, may make reservations for collections by calling (888) 559-2783.
Officials emphasized that ammunition, explosives, asbestos, ammonia gas, medical wastes, refrigerator coolants and flammable materials will not be accepted.
The program is being funded with a portion of a $75,000 grant the city and sanitary district received from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
