New York Editor Fired: Kurt Andersen, 42, editor in chief of New York magazine, was dismissed Thursday in a disagreement over editorial direction and unhappiness about flat circulation.
Andersen was appointed to the post in February 1994. He and Graydon Carter, now editor of Vanity Fair, founded Spy magazine in 1986.
Richard Babcock, editor in chief of Chicago magazine, will take over temporarily at New York until a permanent successor is hired. Babcock was an editor at New York in the 1980s.
