IRVINE — Oakley Inc. signed a letter of intent that would give it an option to buy Gentex Optics’ nonprescription lens production unit in four years. Terms of the proposed option agreement were not disclosed.
Oakley, which makes sunglasses and goggles, said the proposed agreement would also give it exclusive rights to buy decentered sunglass lenses and a new scratch-resistant coating from Gentex and its parent company, Essilor International. Gentex makes polycarbonate lenses and is Oakley’s sole supplier of the lenses.
