Ohio State center Juan Porter, a starter the past two seasons, will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee, the university said.

Porter twisted the knee during Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage. He underwent an MRI test on Sunday to determine the extent of the damage.

A school official said Porter will be operated on today at Ohio State University Medical Center. Doctors will repair a tear in the lateral meniscus cartilage.

Colorado quarterback Koy Detmer has been given full medical clearance to play this season. Detmer, who sat out most of last season because of a knee injury, had been cleared for all but full-contact action, which, as a quarterback, he would have been kept away from anyway.

“He’s 100%,” Coach Rick Neuheisel said. “There are zero signs he’s ever been hurt.”

Colorado opens the season against Washington State on Saturday.
