Man, 19, Held in Killing, Rape Spree
CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man broke into a house during a slumber party early Friday and sexually assaulted and stabbed three teen-age girls, killing one, police said.
Curtis Lee White, a 19-year-old who lives across the street from the site of the attack, was charged with murder, rape and other crimes in the 4 a.m. rampage and was jailed without bail. If convicted, he could get the death penalty.
The attacker sexually assaulted 17-year-old Michelle Harper and stabbed her to death with a kitchen knife, authorities said.
He raped and wounded the two other girls, ages 13 and 17, and stabbed the older girl’s twin brother when he awoke and tried to help, Detective Richard Black said. The three surviving teenagers were treated at a hospital and released.
A neighbor, Elaine Person, said White had been dating the older rape victim for several years.
White was identified as the attacker by at least one girl and was arrested at his home shortly after the attacks, police said.
The houses are on a street of neat, middle-class homes in the Camelot subdivision, with street names such as Guinevere, Lancelot and Sir Galahad.
