Missing the ‘Joy’ of Radio
Ralph Shaffer’s article (“It’s Time to Put ‘Joy’ Back Into the Lives of Radio,” Counterpunch, July 29), really hit home. As a retired musician having played for his supper during the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s, I enjoyed the music on KOJY.
The library was the greatest. Many of the original big-band and vocalists were remastered. Gary Owens’ off-the-wall humor made your day. Johnny Magnus’ encyclopedic knowledge of every record or tape will be missed. Why this one tiny “low signal” station disappeared is still a mystery. If there are any Friends of KOJY out there--please let your voices be heard.
