Key TWA Wreckage Still Missing
From Times staff and wire reports
Key wreckage from the crash of Trans World Airlines Flight 800 is still missing, and it is too early to predict when the difficult undersea recovery effort will be completed, said Robert Francis, the National Transportation Safety Board member who heads the investigation of the July 17 crash. Although more than half of the debris has been recovered, “a fair amount” of the center section has yet to be found on the ocean bottom nine miles off Long Island. The bodies of 206 of the 230 victims have been found.
