World IN BRIEF : PAKISTAN : 18 Reportedly Killed at Mourning Rites

From Times Wire Reports

Gunmen killed at least 18 people and wounded nearly 70 in an attack on a Shiite Muslim mourning meeting in the central province of Punjab, the official news agency and Shiite spokesmen said. The Shiite spokesmen blamed a rival militant group from the majority Sunni sect of Islam for Pakistan’s bloodiest sectarian attack this year and said it appeared to be a revenge shooting. It followed a gun attack on a Sunni procession in the city of Karachi on Wednesday in which 12 people were killed and 11 wounded.
