Khmer Rouge Orders Arrest of 2 Leaders

Khmer Rouge radio broadcast orders for the arrest of two commanders said to have defected to the government along with 3,000 rebel soldiers. The guerrilla movement’s clandestine radio said Khmer Rouge Supreme Command had ordered the arrest and military trial of Sok Peap and Mit (Ei) Chien in northwest Cambodia. Second Prime Minister Hun Sen said the two commanders of key rebel zones had defected along with their supporters. The broadcast was a clear sign that the faction is suffering its most serious split since its ouster in 1979, analysts said.
