The final tuneup for a handful of Olympic-bound swimmers starts tonight and continues through Sunday at a meet in Santa Clara at the International Swim Center. One final is scheduled for today--the 800-meter freestyle.
Among the local Olympians scheduled to compete are USC’s Kristine Quance in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200 individual medley on Saturday, and UCLA’s Annette Salmeen and USC’s Brad Bridgewater. Distance star Janet Evans won’t compete at Santa Clara because of tendinitis in her shoulders, according to U.S. assistant coach Mark Schubert. Schubert said the ailment is not a major one.
Others expected to swim in Santa Clara include Jenny Thompson, Allison Wagner, Cristina Teuscher, Josh Davis, Gary Hall Jr., Jeff Rouse and Brad Schumacher.
