Five Are Honored for School Service

Five people have been honored with Parent Volunteer of the Year awards by the Irvine Education Foundation for their services to local schools.
Turtle Rock Elementary School parent Jacquie Boslet was named districtwide winner. Other winners are: Gale Kahn, University High School; Judith Michalek, Venado Middle School; Carol Hern, College Park Elementary School; and Debi Cannon, Meadow Park Elementary School.
Parent volunteers have worked with teaching assistants, librarians and media specialists, said Elizabeth Thomas, executive director of Irvine Education Foundation. They also help out as playground supervisors, do office and clean-up work, monitor attendance and grade papers.
The winners were chosen from a list of 28 parents nominated by individual schools in Irvine Unified School District.
