Amanda Kaplan, a new Laguna Beach High School graduate, has won a top National Honor Society award and scholarship for her scholastic achievements and community service.
Kaplan was one of 250 students nationwide who were chosen from 12,000 nominees for the award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship.
Kaplan, who received a letter in cross-country and dances jazz and tap competitively, is president of the school’s American Field Service and National Honor Society chapters. She volunteers at the Laguna Shanti AIDS hospice and in a Costa Mesa health clinic.
She plans to attend Yale University this fall to study foreign relations and romance languages.
