The Major League Baseball Players Assn. announced creation of the Players Trust for Children, the first charitable foundation established and operated entirely by professional athletes. Nearly $1 million in pledges and donations has already been raised, union officials said, with each major league player contributing a minimum 2% of his annual licensing revenue.
Contributions of $10,000 each will be made to youth-oriented charities through the six annual winners of the union’s players choice awards, voted on by the membership.
