TEACHER RECOVERING

A grade-school teacher who nearly died when a stray bullet struck him in the head in front of his students was released from a hospital to a residential facility for further therapy, a doctor said Thursday.
Alfredo Perez, wounded Feb. 22 in the library at Figueroa Street School in the South-Central area was discharged Wednesday from Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
“Alfredo’s rehabilitation has been steady,” said Dr. Richard Adams, who directed his therapy. “He has made significant progress and functional gains in his ability to speak and in his mobility.”
Adams has said Perez’s full recovery could take up to a year.
