Furon Co.: The Laguna Niguel maker of engineered polymer components for the industrial marketplace said that net income for the first fiscal quarter rose 35%, to $4.6 million, or 50 cents a share, from $3.4 million, or 37 cents a share, for the comparable period last year. Sales for the quarter ended May 4 rose 7%, to a record $94.8 million from $88.5 million. The company attributed the gains to its new organizational structure, which allows for the sale of more products to existing customers, as well as to contributions from Fluorglas, which was acquired in February.
