Pacific Sunwear of California Inc.: The Anaheim apparel retailer said its loss for the first fiscal quarter narrowed, to $170,000, or 3 cents a share, from $619,000, or 12 cents a share, for the like period last year. Sales for the quarter ended May 5 rose 42%, to $27.6 million from $19.5 million.
Pacific Sunwear said it opened nine new larger-format stores in the first quarter of 1996 and plans to open a total of 25 new stores for the year. It will also convert six existing stores to the larger format.
