Simpson and Yanagisawa Choose Four-Year Schools
Fullerton’s Matt Simpson and Orange Coast’s Deric Yanagisawa, both sophomore catchers, have signed with four-year colleges.
Simpson, who sustained a leg injury this season, is going to Tennessee. He hit .273 with four home runs and started 22 of 39 games. He is from California High.
Yanagisawa is headed to Hawaii Pacific. He hit .312 with three home runs and drove in 40 runs. He also scored 28 runs and had 11 doubles. He is from Fountain Valley High.
Three members of Orange Coast’s team also have signed. Tina Afan (Mater Dei) and Monica Geraci (Huntington Beach High) are going to Cal State Stanislaus. Kathleen Kelly, a forward from Mater Dei, is going to Adams (Colo.) State.
Cheryl Dickson of Morningside High became the third member of Saddleback’s state finalist team to sign with a Division I college. Dickson, a guard, is headed for Bethune Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla. Already signing were Cha-Ron Walker (Arizona) and Maureen Skeehan (Northern Arizona).
Todd Wilson (Savanna High) and Ramon Alliman (Pacifica High), both forwards at Rancho Santiago, have signed with Alaska Fairbanks.
