Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro was closed Friday after a sewage spill near Terminal Island, county Health Department officials reported.
Work crews inadvertently caused the leak while doing routine maintenance work Thursday morning on the line, which they did not realize was backed up.
About 100,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled before crews were able to stop it, Health Services spokesman Richard Kebabjian said.
Kebabjian said the beach will remain closed until bacteria counts go down.
