Board Delays Construction of Courthouse Near LAX
- Share via
Construction of an $85-million municipal courthouse near Los Angeles International Airport was delayed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday because of concern that the planned 10-story structure could interfere with the airport’s expansion plans.
The supervisors agreed to delay awarding construction contracts for at least 30 days while negotiations continue with the city of Los Angeles’ Department of Airports on an agreement that could eventually lead to a different location for the courthouse.
The Board of Airport commissioners, like the supervisors, voted Tuesday to approve a memorandum of understanding in which the city agrees to reimburse the county for all costs associated with delaying the Municipal Court expansion project.
The Department of Airports also commits to assisting the county in finding another site for the courthouse and paying additional costs associated with moving the facility, such as obtaining new building approvals and adapting architectural plans.
