Korean Baptists Seek OK to Build Church
A Baptist congregation in Simi Valley that has been worshiping for two years in temporary buildings on a Cochran Street lot wants to make its presence on the site permanent.
The Korean Baptist Church wants the Simi Valley Planning Commission to approve plans for a 6,550-square-foot church building at 4868 Cochran St., near the intersection with Ralston Avenue. Commissioners are scheduled to review the proposal Wednesday.
City planners have recommended approval for the project.
In March 1994, the city granted the congregation permission to hold services in the two temporary buildings while church leaders pursued plans to build a permanent home on the 2.6-acre lot. About 40 worshipers now use the makeshift sanctuary.
The permanent church building would seat 208 people and provide space for an office and kitchen. The roof, 30 feet high over much of the building, would culminate in a 50-foot-high steeple and cross.
Should the commission approve the project, the temporary buildings would be removed.
