SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ever wish you could zoom your binoculars in on your favorite quarterback or a diva at the opera or a hummingbird in your garden? You can with Pentax’s new UCF 8-20x24 Zoom Binoculars.

Just twist the zoom ring on the lightweight--17 ounces--binoculars and zoom in on your subject, magnifying it eight to 20 times. The controls are placed so you can operate the binoculars with one hand, and the rubberized finish makes them easy to grip.

The UCF Zoom Binoculars ($334) are available at Price Quest and other mass merchandisers.

A Real Find: Help for the woefully disorganized: Lost goods can be found more easily with Tracker, a high-tech identification and recovery service that uses personal bar code labels affixed to items of your choice.

The Tracker Security Kit ($29.95) includes 24 adhesive labels encoded with your confidential electronic code and a toll-free number to Tracker headquarters. The code on the item can be decoded by participating law enforcement agencies or other designated recovery sites.

Each kit comes with a one-year membership that can be renewed annually.

Tracker reps say the adhesive labels are extremely hard to remove and can be read by the system’s scanners even if part of the code is scratched away.

If, say, someone finds your lost laptop, they can call the 800 Tracker number and arrange for a representative to pick up the computer and take it to a recovery station. The scanning device will reveal your name and number and the laptop will be returned via Tracker’s courier network. To order, call Tracker, (800) 361-8725.
