2 Middle Schools to Require Uniforms

Washington and Imperial middle schools soon will be among the few intermediate schools in the county to require their pupils to wear uniforms.
The middle schools are in the La Habra City School District, which last year became the first in the county to implement a voluntary dress code at its elementary schools.
School district trustees decided to allow principals to impose the mandatory uniforms with parent approval. Many other districts in the county now require their students to wear uniforms as a way to discourage fashion competition, peer rivalry and gang activity, officials said.
Washington and Imperial will require uniforms this fall. The outfits at Washington will consist of navy pants, jeans, skirts or shorts and solid red, white or blue shirts. Imperial will require blue and white outfits.
The uniforms must be worn by students while on campus unless their parents request a waiver.
