Mater Dei, Freshman
Softball/Pitcher
Young, who led her traveling team to the 14-and-under national championship last summer, has quickly mastered high school competition. In the title game of the Canyon tournament last week, she struck out the first 10 batters and finished with 17 strikeouts in a 5-0, one-hit victory over El Modena. She also pitched a one-hitter in a 6-0 victory over Garden Grove. She also was six for nine with a home run and four runs batted in for the week. “She’s just a remarkable athlete,” Mater Dei Coach Doug Meyers said.
