Break Dancing Makes a Comeback

It’s no joke. And it’s not a time warp. The group of about 25 San Fernando break dancers who practice in the gym at Recreation Park say they’re serious.
So is their leader, a 26-year-old deejay / rap / hip-hop performer who calls himself DJ Hazze. Break dancing may have faded since its zenith a decade ago, Hazze said, but it will never die.
“We’re getting people into it again. It’s keeping kids out of trouble,” said Hazze, who coaches the dancers three days a week.
The city held a break-dance exhibition in January that drew about 200 people, according to city recreation supervisor Gwen Indermill, and another performance is set for April 12.
