Bail Bond Company Ordered to Pay Fine
A Simi Valley bail bond business has been ordered to pay a civil penalty and restitution in order to settle allegations of failing to return property promptly after the bail bond obligations had been terminated.
The consumer and environmental protection division of the Ventura County district attorney’s office filed the civil complaint against California Bail Bond Services Inc., also known as Eveready Bonds Inc.
The company is required to pay a civil penalty of $4,500, restitution totaling $1,460 to three customers and $500 to support public libraries in Ventura County.
The funds to support public libraries reflect a new policy in consumer protection cases when it is difficult to give restitution directly to the affected consumers and the defendant agrees, Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Schwartz said.
Superior Court Judge Joe D. Hadden also issued a permanent injunction Monday that requires the company to comply with the law. California Bail Bond Services and Eveready Bonds did not admit wrongdoing but agreed to the final judgment and injunction.
