Utah is likely to be without All-American forward Keith Van Horn when the Utes play Canisius today in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional at Dallas. Coach Rick Majerus said the 6-foot-9 Van Horn has not practiced all week because of a viral strain of flu. . . . Wisconsin-Green Bay freshman forward Mike Nabena suffered a sprained ankle in practice and is questionable for today’s first-round game against Virginia Tech.
Maxine Neill-Johnson, associate athletic director and compliance officer at Texas-El Paso, has been reassigned to undefined duties in fallout from the school’s forfeiture of a first-round Western Athletic Conference tournament victory. . . . Northwest Missouri State must forfeit 12 victories and vacate its share of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship, after center Rick Jolley was ruled ineligible because he played in an exhibition game with Penn State before transferring to Northwest Missouri. . . .
