Santa Ana Mater Dei 57, Glendora 47--The Monarchs built a 16-point, fourth-quarter lead, then held off a Glendora rally to win their fifth consecutive Southern Section I-A title and 10th in the last 14 years.
A free throw by Jason Vallas gave Mater Dei (32-1) a 42-26 lead with 7:49 seconds left. Casey Jacobsen then scored Glendora’s next seven points, including a three-point basket to cut the Monarch lead to 44-37 with 5:03 left.
The Tartans (25-6) got as close a six twice, the last time with 3:30 left. But a three-point shot by Tom Lippold gave the Monarchs a 50-41 lead with 2:42 left.
It was the 32nd consecutive victory for Mater Dei, the defending State Division I champions.
