A doctor wanted on deadbeat-dad charges surrendered in Coushatta, La., after a six-day standoff during which he rallied right-wing militia members to his home out of fear authorities would kill him. Lynn Truman Crawford, 42, was taken to Shreveport 30 miles away for a hearing on charges of failing to pay $70,000 in child support since 1985 in Missouri. The standoff began when he refused to recognize the authority of federal agents and sheriff’s deputies sent to arrest him. It ended after militia groups contacted media organizations. The militia members had come to Coushatta to observe the standoff after Crawford contacted them.
