Wife Arrested After Husband’s Ear Bitten Off
BURBANK — A wife who claimed her husband struck her during an argument bit off the top of his ear, authorities said Monday.
Police arrested De Los Angeles Maria Alvarez, 31, at her apartment in the 1800 block of Grismer Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday. She was booked on suspicion of mayhem and is being held in Burbank city jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The husband, Juan Mejia Ruiz, 40, was found wandering and disoriented, clutching a bloody wound on the side of his head. He denied having struck his wife.
A police officer walked Ruiz back to his apartment, where he found the missing piece of his ear on the floor. Ruiz refused medical treatment.
“He just took it and said he would take care of it himself. He didn’t want to go to the hospital,” said Sgt. Len Doran.
Arraignment for Alvarez was set for Burbank Municipal Court today.
