Northwest Owes Refunds: Northwest Airlines Corp. said its customers are due about $35 million in refunds of travel taxes collected by the carrier last year. A 10% airline ticket tax and $6 international departure tax expired Dec. 31 and have not been reauthorized by Congress during the stalled federal budget negotiations. Northwest said it will process refunds for about 1 million customers who paid the taxes in 1995 for travel this year. Airlines have been informed that they can credit the refunds to their own future tax liability, Northwest said. Customers who purchased tickets by credit card will have the taxes credited to their credit card accounts. Customers who did not pay by credit card will have to file a form with the company.
