USC Gets Caught in Stanford Roll
In the 20 individual and team women’s basketball statistics kept by the Pacific 10 Conference, Stanford leads in only one--margin of victory.
The fourth-ranked Cardinal won its 11th in a row and stretched its conference record to 10-0 with an easy 77-54 victory before 968 at the Lyon Center.
Stanford, improving its overall record to 17-2, beat the Trojans (9-10, 4-6) inside, outside and with early full-court passes to breakaway artist Kate Starbird, who alone produced 17 first-half points.
Starbird finished with 29 points in 35 minutes. Tina Thompson was USC’s only consistent weapon, getting 20 points and nine rebounds.
Stanford built an early 23-9 lead and the Trojans never really threatened.
