SANTA ANA — A tourist who sued Paula Abdul for damages resulting from an auto accident in which he injured his back received a $200,000 settlement, his attorney said Thursday.
Mark Squire, 32, of Bournemouth, England, had been visiting Southern California on a three-week vacation in December 1990. He was the front-seat passenger talking to the driver when Abdul rear-ended a van that struck the plaintiff’s vehicle on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Studio City, said his lawyer, Christopher Russell.
The impact damaged a lower disc in Squire’s back, which has not recovered fully after two surgeries, Russell said. He is scheduled for another surgery this year.
“He went through a lot of agony” as a result of the accident, his attorney said.
The case, originally filed in Orange County Superior Court but later transferred to Los Angeles County Superior Court, was settled through mediation.
